With a ‘Gaze on Glaze’ theme, the B.R. Pandit family has produced some excellent creations. B.R. Pandit, his wife Devaki, elder son Abhay and his wife Khushboo – along with son Sailesh have done some good work. The products are all shared ideas and effort. Devaki for instance, ensures that malleability of the clay is perfect, Abhay works on surface textures, Shailesh does it on vases, Khushboo burnishes and finally Pandit glazes and fires the pots in kilns.
B.R. Pandit explores his copper-red reduction glaze that has steadily stretched his repertoire of shades of red from muted malt in shimmering scarlet. Once again he shows in his work his mastery over reducing the oxygen content in the kiln with a view to making the cooper glaze to yield red – even as daubs of green and pink add greater interest to the pots. There is a green crystalline double was glaze ball in which can be seen a softly shimmering surface covered with a matrix of crystals.
It was Cymroza Gallery that initiated the idea of bringing about a synergy of the works of this family of illustrious potters under one roof and shocking their talents as a single unit. The exhibition will go on till October 5.
