Pratik Sharma's paintings of cars ranging from Rolls Royces, Audis, Porsches and even reassembled Hot Rods may not be an unusual concern for a young artist. On a closer look, one can see in his work the concern with portraying our time. The artists' craze for cars led him to Raffles Design Institute where he pursued a degree in Product Design – and further he studied sculpture relief at Art Student League, New York.
It is the voice of a time when the artist treads the narrow line between consumerism and cretivity. The important thing is he uses all the skill he has acquired in painting – and blends it with the necessity of minimal forms and mostly primary colours dictated by the needs of design.
The series of works gives one a good idea of how artists in our day can paint cans of soup, shoes and other mass produced objects, clothe them in the feelings which are in turn communicated to the viewer making even mass produced objects icons in their own right. It is up to the artist then to proliferate these images and explore new perspectives along the road that Pratik is travelling on. The paintings are unique and contemporary. Contact: 9820495655.
