Bhiva Punekar show at Galleri Leela
Tuesday, November 16, 2010
Bhiva Punekar is not only conscious about visial elements, but he understands the subtleties coupled with his pictorial devices that include wide range of Tantrik symbols. The core pictorial form in his recent paintings is the Lingam – a symbol for Shiva. He has shown the Lingam separately or delineated on the forehead, juxtaposed with ‘sahashrar chakra’ with a kind of colours that fuel mysiticism. The use of Lingam as a symbol for worship is an Indian tradition that dates back to the Indus Valley civilization. The Shiva Lingam is considered as a phallic symbol that represents the reproductive aspect of material universe. The striking characteristic common in all the paintings is the human face which is shown lit up from inside. It is the power of symbols, shapes and colours Punekar employs as tools that transmit positive energy.
The exhibition is at Gallerie Leela and it ends on Thursday. Contact: 9869471162.
