Drowning Shadows by Umair Naeem is a thriller of sorts by the Karachi-based writer and editor, centered around three women and a successful fashion photographer, Hyder Waseem.
The fashion world in Karachi is a place where glamour and fame rule, where loyalties exist but can only be bought at a price, lust is legitimate and its exploits condoned by society, but where everybody struggles to find love.
Natalia is Pakistan’s latest supermodel, Anab is Hyder’s perky and efficient secretary, and Sophie is the fiancé of Hyder’s friend, Osman. All of them have a past which has shaped their individual characters that in turn have a bearing on this story. They are different from each other, but find common ground in their desires and their insecurities.
