Radiant Shadow by Melissa Marr happens to be the fourth of the Wicked Lovely series and probably the best yet. Though each novel can be read as an individual stand alone super story with its own stunning plot and characters, there are subtle connections that bind the novels together. Readers just can’t seem to be getting enough, and are eagerly awaiting the next saga of hope, despair, longing and love.
The main characters of this book are Devlin and Ani, half-human, half-faery, driven by her own hungers and feeding on human emotions. Devlin is the brother of the High Queen of the faeries, groomed to be an assassin and sent to the Mortal world to guard and protect Seth who has returned to live here.
When Devlin bumps into Ani at a night club, he realizes that there are things beyond his control as far as she is concerned. And the attraction is strongly mutual. He feels protective towards her, as she herself has her own situation to cope with when she is ordered to kill Seth. Devlin and Ani gravitate towards each other, one wary of the other, but still getting closer, even as a sinister threat looms over Faerie, threatening its very existence.
