The magic of life is real, be grateful

Monday, April 23, 2012

The Magic by Rhonda Byrne, Australian television writer and producer, is the third fascinating self-help classic after The Secret (2006) and The Power (2010).
The Secret drew from centuries of great thinkers, scientists, artists and philosophers, and was based on the law of attraction. It asserted that positive thinking can create life-changing results such as increased wealth, health, and happiness.

After experiencing an absolute and immediate transformation in her own life, and deriving spectacular benefits with this new perspective, she set about sharing this unique knowledge with the world through her books. The Secret notched up more than 21 million copies in sales and was translated into 44 languages, while its CD remains a bestseller. The Power was a book that warned: “If you feel bad about having bad feelings, you are adding more power to your bad feelings.” “Taking things too seriously brings a life you have to take seriously.” It advocated love, wanting us to adopt it as a permanent attitude, and bring back positivity into our lives.

This is a step by step guide running over 28 days, at the end of which one is sure to emerge into a better world, into the kind of life one has dreamed about but not strongly enough or strategically well enough. The essence in this book is gratitude. There are 28 magic practices to help steer us through each day, there is a magic rock which we have to first get hold of and then keep in our grasp and vision each day. It is time to reach out for that cool smooth pebble that can fit snuggly in our palms and become that magic rock.

But the basic premise is to be grateful, even if no big ticket happenings are on our list of achievements. The author cites this saying of the Buddha to convey that there is a lot in life to be grateful for: Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn’t learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn’t learn a little, at least we didn’t get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn’t die; so, let us all be thankful. The book will help bring forth the magic, make us live the life of our dreams.
