Evernight by Claudia Gray is a great debut novel and keeping with the current trend, is about vampires. Sixteen-year-old Bianca, comes from a small town to the Evernight Academy, a dark gothic boarding school.
There are tow types of kids here like in almost all institutions – the classy haves and the shunned have-nots. Bianca aims to side-step both groups, but when the rich and beautiful from the in-crowd accept her in their midst, she falls out of favour of the outcasts, particularly Lucas, whom she has grown to love.
Very much a social outcast, Lucas has been solicitous towards Bianca, even as ancient sinister secrets of Evernight Academy threaten to engulf her and she makes attempts to flee the place.
The author has managed to weave a vampire story, in the menacing corridors and grounds of gothic darkness, where all have their hidden secrets – secrets that can pull Bianca and Lucas apart, even though they are connected with bonds of deep love.
