Life is sweet for chocolate makers

Monday, November 01, 2010

Chocolate Wishes by Trisha Ashley is another humorous and heart-warming book by the author of the bestselling novel, A Winter’s Tale. Chloe Lyon is a successful businesswoman, who lives with her younger half-brother, Jake and her grandfather, Grumps, who is a warlock and heads a coven of worshippers given to practicing pagan rites. But life has had its ups and downs, more downs, actually. There is also a gypsy aunt Zillah. Chloe has sacrificed a lot of advantages in life to look after Jake and he too happens to be a very pleasant creature, a teenage Goth! All the characters in the book are memorable in their own way.

Chloe and family had moved into a Lancashire village called Sticklepond, that has quite a quaint set of inhabitants. Raffy is the vicar, who was a former front man of a rock band, and snazzily good looking, has just moved into the place, and well, Chloe and he can hardly resist each other. The problem is that the two have known each other intimately earlier, when he was Chloe’s first love, and the one who broke her heart. The book is so well written that you are in the middle of the story before you know it and it attains a very real feeling.

As a hobby and a pastime, Chloe makes delicious chocolates inside which she puts pieces of paper which contain peppy predictions, sayings and suggestions. This accounts for the title of the book, Chocolate Wishes.

This turns out to be a very nice love story, and it is not mushy. Guys can read it too, really. Trisha is a good writer, and her language is light on the mind.
