In a jestful mood, heroine Parineeti Chopra quipped, “If the boy I wish to get married does not consent, I guess I now know how to kidnap him. Now that I have the similar experience in this hilarious rom-com movie ‘Jabariya Jodi’, which has this theme,” she smiled.
Co-produced by Ekta Kapoor, the movie with its staunch desi-Bihari ethnic backdrop and dialects releases on 1st August. A far contrast cry from the traditional ‘swayamwar’ where the bride would gently select her prospective ‘bridegroom’, this forceful dulha-abduction, custom is still prevalent in hinterland North regions, especially Bihar, according to ‘Jabariya….’ director Prashant Singh.
Interestingly, Singh who belongs to Bihar, even interacted with real-life Bihari couples, who had gone through this ‘pakadwa-vivaah’ syndrome, in order to get their amusing inputs. The ‘Jabariya….’ cast also includes stalwart actors Javed Jaffrey ( screen-father of Sidharth) and the amazing funster Sanjay Mishra and glam-girls Alankrita Sahai and Elli Avram who will be seen swinging to raunchy item-songs. Enthuses hero Sidharth,
“We have shown this adbhut ritual which takes place in Bihar, but in a very comical manner. It also conveys a social message on dowry, so it's a love story with engaging content, we haven't seen before,” shrugs Sid who was previously paired opposite Parineeti, in ‘Hasee Toh Phasee’ (2014) which was a huge hit.
