Although it was a formal launch of the trailer of this latest funster Kapil Sharma-starrer movie ‘Firangi’, the serious yet jovial banter-discussion seemed more of Kapil openly confiding from an invisible confession-box.
As expected it was a Kapil-talkathon, with director Rajeiv Dhingra and co-stars barely getting a chance to speak. In his witty style, Kapil disclosed that ‘Firangi’ is a colourful story of ‘Mangaa’, a happy-go-lucky villager, whose only desperate desire is to be inducted into the police force.
“In our movie releasing on November 24, I have this ‘touch-me-not’ vintage romance with my charming heroine Ishita Dutta, while stunning Indo-American actress Monica Gill and Swedish actress Maryam Zakaria are also my co-stars,” Sharma said.
When asked if the urban masses will connect with a rural backdrop subject, he said, “Definitely! Cinematic history has proved that with films like ‘Sholay’, ‘Lagaan’ and more recently ‘Dangal’ which were all blockbuster hits. Our movie is an authentic pre-Independence ‘period’ subject,”insisted Sharma.
He was also apologetic about the recent ugly in-flight face-off with his Comedy-Show colleagues. “It all happened because I was under terrible mounting mental pressure and then I suffered from these anxiety-attacks. All this led to me venting out my pent-up irritation. But I still love and respect Sunil Grover. In fact, I wanted him to launch my ‘Firangi’ trailer. But he informed us that he is currently in Canada for some show,” Sharma continued.
He also denied reports about both Shah Rukh Khan and Anil Kapoor being ‘peeved’ with him when they arrived on his TV show sets, only to be told that the shoot was abruptly cancelled. “On the contrary, both SRK and Anil were very supportive and sympathized with my health conditions,” countered Kapil, who was sinking into alcoholism and depression, before he underwent a brief healing-therapy sabbatical at Bengaluru and is now steadily returning to being “fit and hit”.
