Want to do big budget films if my role is substantial: Richa

Monday, June 29, 2015

Actress Richa Chadda says she is open to doing big commercial films if her role is substantial. "I was getting offers from big companies, but I don't want to do it just for the heck of it. I get offers from big banners every month, but I don't do it if they are not worth it. It has to be a strong role, not repetitive. I feel it is good to be part of big films when your role is substantial," Richa told PTI.

Richa made her debut with "Oye Lucky...Lucky Oye" and was then seen in "Gangs Of Wasseypur". She gave a stunning performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Ram Leela", the only big budget film that she has done till now in her career.

"The film "Ram Leela" was about this woman whose husband has died, she wears black clothes as is the ritual, she is scared, but at the same time is strong. I wanted to work with Bhansali sir, so I said yes for the film," she said.

"Like when your role is small or you have to do a song then I don't want to do it. I will not repeat myself. My intention is not to repeat myself," she said.

Richa thinks the industry tends to typecast actors and offer them similar roles, but she doesn't want to do the same stuff again.

"I feel there is a perception in the industry that after doing "Gangs of Wasseypur", I will do those kind of films only. But it is not right, and it takes time for us to break that perception. It took two-and-half to three years for me to do a commercial film like "Cabaret". It takes time. But that is ok. Actors do everything, but the perception is performed by the industry. Things are changing," Richa said.

Richa has an interesting line-up of films like "Masaan", "Main Aur Charles", "Jiya Aur Jiya", "Aur Devdas" and "Cabaret", where her roles are different.

"In my upcoming film like 'Masaan', the role is very different. Then in 'Main Aur Charles' my role is of a girl whom anyone can befool. In 'Jiya Aur Jiya', I am playing a quiet, shy girl. In "Aur Devdas", I enact a social worker, in 'Cabaret', I am a playing a girl who has great survival instincts," Richa said.

"Then I have 'Chalk and Duster' where I have a cameo. I play a journalist and it is not easy. I am trying to experiment with every film that I am doing," she said.
