DEVIATING from tradition, the nightclub ‘Enigma’ enacted the cracking of the Dahi Handi with a twist. Instead of a human pyramid composed of men, the indoor club enacted the matki-todo ritual without preference to sex. The event took place much before the Janmashtami revelry, with Vindoo Dara Singh and Sudhanshu Pandey forming the base, on which stood a leggy model. The event was conceived by Pandey, soul painter Suketu Shah and Shiv Sena MLA Pratap Sarnaik.
Among the many celeb guests were Ramesh Sippy of Sholay fame and his wife Kiran Juneja. Fashion designer Rohit Verma clutched a soft hand crafted icon of Krishna. Vindoo was elated by the response the event received. “My family and I have always been ardent devotees of Lord Krishna,” said Vindoo. “And I guess this deviation was in keeping with the natkhat (naughty) nature of the young Krishna, who was always up to some startling antics. It was good fun giving the novice girls a helping hand and elevating them to take a crack at the handi,” he chuckled away.
