Vijender Singh, an Olympic medalist in Boxing, is making his big screen debut in Kabir Sadanand’s ‘Fugly.’ We got talking to the tough guy about his big screen debut
Were you comfortable acting?
I am still nervous about the outcome and I was nervous while shooting for the film though I am an international boxer. Director Kabir Sadanand helped me a lot.
To whom do you owe your film career?
To Akshay Kumar who cajoled me into an acting career. Initially, I was apprehensive about it.
How was it like working on the film?
It was great fun and I made a lot of friends like Arfi Lamba, Mohit, Kiera Advani, Jimmy Sheirgill, and Salman Khan who makes a special appearance in the film.
Was it easy for you to act?
Both acting and boxing demand a lot of discipline and I had to surrender myself to the director and his demands for the perfect take. However, it was good for the film.
Is your film ‘Manchali’ with Narmaada Ahuja still on?
I have no idea. The makers have not got back to me.
How was it like working with the ensemble cast?
It was great fun with a lot of bonhomie and frolic and we got along very well.
You have quite a female fans.
Yes. I have become an actor due to my fan following among the ladies.
What next?
I will start training for the forthcoming Commonwealth games.
