National Award winning actress Vidya Balan will enact Geeta Bali’s dancing queen role in director Shekhar Sartandel’s bio-pic of the maverick action and dancing star of the forties, Bhagwan Abaji Palav popularly known as Bhagwan Dada, who created the iconic dancing and song sequences in his directorial film ''Albela'' which created history and ran for more than 30 weeks at the box office
Actor Mangesh Desai plays Bhagwan Dada while Vidya Balan will enact the dance sequences to the popular songs like ‘Shola Jo Bhadke’, ‘Shaam Dhale’ composed by C.Ramchandra. Vidya says, “I always wanted to act in a Marathi film since I consider myself a Marathi Mulgi, and when this offer came to me from my veteran make-up man, Vidyadhar Bhatte, I immediately accepted it since I am a great fan of Geeta Bali and Bhagwan dada”.
When asked whether she likes to enact real characters like she did in ''The Dirty Picture'', she says, “ After ''The Dirty Picture'', I got many offers like the same bit. I declined all, but yes, I like to do real parts”. She adds, “I did a lot of research on Geeta Bali and saw many films of her and tried to enact the dance sequences like her.''
When asked if she would like to do a bio-pic on Geeta Bali, she says, “that would take some hard work on my part and it won’t be easy but if offered, I would definitely do it as she is my favourite actress”.
''Mangesh Desai has done a fantastic job and he will receive many plaudits for his role”. The actress also says that she would love to do a full-fledged Marathi film”. Vidya is sure going the right way to more glory!
