If the ‘frigid’ response to ‘Rock On 2’ is any indication, the fate of sequels seems rather dicey. However, vibrant Vidya Balan seems maha-excited and optimistic about her upcoming movie sequel ‘Kahaani-2’ directed by Sujoy Ghosh.
“It’s not a sequel. Except for the title-franchise, the subject-story is completely different and I play this lead character of ‘Durga Rani Singh’, who is 'wanted’ by the cops for her alleged crimes of murder and kidnapping,” chuckles Vidya.
‘The Dirty Picture’ lead actress was invited by suave print-media baron Nari Hira for releasing the latest edition of the classy ‘Society’ magazine, for which Balan is the ‘cover girl’. The outspoken Vidya has no inhibitions in confiding that “mega-star Amitabh Bachchan was and still continues to be an ‘iconic idol’ for her”. However, she denied being choosey-fussy about her roles. “There is no formula or fixed criteria for my role-selection; I visualize myself in that character-graph and also evaluate it from the audience point-of-view,” discloses the ‘Munna bhai’ sequel girl who feels that each person is ‘uniquely complicated’.
Does she anticipate any adverse impact of the sudden ‘demonetization’ on her ‘Kahaani 2’ release? “Frankly. I don’t understand financial economics at all, but I am told that it’s a great decision. Anyways I guess, the masses should have enough liquidity by early next month,” she shrugs. Given an option for preferred bio-pics, Balan declares that she would “love to portray enigmatic ‘late’ actress Meena Kumari, or ‘late’ Indira Gandhi or maybe ‘late’ vocalist M. S. Subbulakshmi”.
