Resilience, thy name is Vicky Kaushal! Current sensation and Bollywood tough-dude Vicky Kaushal known for his rugged army officer lead roles in ‘Raazi’ and ‘Uri the Surgical Strike’ (how’s the josh!?) who was badly injured during an action-scene that too with a fractured cheek-bone on the sets of an untitled ‘horror’ movie, refused to remain confined to his bed during medical treatment.
The versatile Vicky who won several awards for his hilarious quirky role as ‘Kamli’ in the runaway hit movie ‘Sanju’, has been shooting for dramatic and action-scenes that too in St. Petersburg (Russia) for this upcoming biopic movie on freedom-fighter Udham Singh.
Director Shoojit Sircar (of ‘Piku’ fame) who is directing the historical bio-pic seems delighted with the ‘super-josh’ of the otherwise bearded Kaushal, who sports this suave ‘clean-shaven’ look for the revolutionary character of Udham. The fiery freedom-fighter who shot-dead General Dyer-- responsible for the sadistic (1919) Jallianwala Bagh massacre.
Explains director Sircar, “Even today most people pan-India are not aware who the dare-devil martyr Udham Singh was and about his supreme sacrifice in his avenging mission. With the release of our ’period’ movie the awareness of this unsung patriot will be generated. That too with Vicky Kaushal playing the iconic character,” insists Shoojit who had originally considered repeating his ‘Piku’ actor Irrfan Khan in this movie.
The casting plan had to be dropped when Irrfan had to fly abroad for the extensive medical treatment of his major illness. “Since we are good friends even otherwise, Irrfan and I will definitely work together in the near future, now that’s he is back fit and fine,” assures Shoojit.
