Vivacious Pakistani oomph-girl Veena Malik will finally catwalk out of her ex-beau Ashmit Patel’s shadow and shed her ‘sirf item-girl’ tag when her debut Bollywoodmovie ‘Daal Mein Kucch Kaala’ (DMKK) directed by actor-director Anand ‘Andy’ Balraj releases today. But then habits die hard.Which is why the vivacious Veena will sway and wriggle to this raunchy item number – ‘Main hoon madam Malaai’ in ‘DaalMein…’ which will have the suave Balraj swooning over her.
After diva Deepika Padukone’s dual character debut in Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Om Shanti Om’, its now Malik’s turn (real name, Zahida Malik) to make a similar Bollywood debut.
Enthuses Veena, “In ‘DMKK’ mine is an double-role with a breathtaking ‘supernatural’ undercurrent (glamorous ghost?) where I have all the dudes and men hounding me. But I am as elusive as ever, like in real life,” she chuckles.
Wasn’t this flick also a wacko comedy that proved to be a tough test of her acting talents? Tossing her tresses she reacts, “That’s true. But comedy has always beenmy forte.Way back, when I started my career, I have acted in popular comic TV shows like ‘Prime Gupshup’. Once this movie ‘DMKK’ releases, the masses will realise, that there’smuchmore tome, than just my brazen, dare-bare coquettish image ,” she says with a shrug. With around four more movies as the ‘lead’ in her kitty including ‘Mumbai 125 miles’ and a Southside regional version of ‘The Dirty Picture’, the ex-Bigg Boss in-housemate is least perturbed that her two recent releases including ‘Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya’ where she gyrated to seductive itemsongs, failed to click at the box-office.
“Since I give my 100 per cent dedication to every screen role, it doesn’t demoralise me.
Whatever the fate of the movie, the cinegoers’ response tomy item-songs is awesome. That itself gives me a high,” she justifies.
Wasn’t Veena nursing secret aspirations to costar with certain stars? “Honestly, it would be a dreamcome true if some body decides to cast me.”
