Three Ring Circus

Our stars may or may not succeed in entertaining the public on screen, but off screen, there’s a constant stream of comedy, action and drama going on. The media is full of spicy reports of who is fighting with whom, who are the new best friends, who is romancing whom, and which couple claims to be just good friends. In the shifting equations of allegiances in the industry, it is amusing to see who stands with whom and for how long.

Like, Ranbir Kapoor and Imran Khan were supposed to be best friends, planning to start a production house together and all.  Now, apparently, they are not buddies and Ranbir was not invited to, or chose not to attend, a success party at Imran Khan’s house.  Imran must be relieved to know that he has friends in sufficient number to celebrate the success of his films; till Delhi Belly, he was under the shadow of his powerful uncle Aamir Khan. At this very same party, it was revealed that Shahid Kapoor was getting close to Anuskha Sharma, who till recently was unofficially dating Ranveer Singh (unofficially, because they never admitted to it), who is now unofficially dating Sonakshi Sinha. Imagine, how much masala the patient snoop got from this party—like Sonam being officially escorted by Puneet Malhotra, with whom she was just good friends.

Wasn’t Farah Khan a lifelong Shah Rukh Khan loyalist? Apparently, a rift was caused and hasn’t yet healed.  She has reportedly cast SRK’s arch rival Salman Khan opposite Deepika Padukone in her new film. (After Tees Maar Khan, she needs all the star power she can get.) Now this is interesting—Deepika is the ex-girlfriend of Ranbir Kapoor, who is the ex-boyfriend of Katrina Kaif, who is still Salman’s good friend.  Such a good friend in fact, that she dropped a film with Ranbir, which was picked up with alacrity by Deepika, who has no objections to starring opposite an ex.

Meanwhile, Aamir and Salman have reportedly ganged up against Shah Rukh, and started poaching on his best friends like Karan Johar. SRK probably realises now what lonely at the top really means. And Priyanka Chopra, who is Shahid Kapoor’s ex (at last count) is his new best friend in the industry, who, in turn, is reportedly hated by Kareena Kapoor and Katrina Kaif, who are not pally enough to form a clique yet. But tomorrow, who knows.

Ranbir Kapoor’s love life and Salman Khan’s charity work for causes as well as his leading ladies provides a constant supply of salt and pepper for the media to pep up a bland page/new slot. If it weren’t for these two and Kangna Ranaut, life in the wings of moviedom would be unimaginably dull. Kangna singlehandedly pisses off so many people that they could form a hate KR club. Of late, Mallika Sherawat does not seem to have met any presidents of stars at parties, because her schmoozing pictures have not been circulated for a while. But Abhay Deol got a lot of mileage out of a meeting with Scarlett Johansson. Wonder if the Hollywood press was as excited about Scarlett meeting Dev D.

Now if only someone would gain or lose weight or change their hair colour, there would be something more for the star gazers to report.
