This And That For Summer

Between two big releases and the next big one, there is a lull, so here’s another installment of This And That:

Brad Pitt made a quick visit to Mumbai, listened to Shah Rukh Khan chat away and left… didn’t give Bollywood a chance to fawn over him. No lungi dance at Mannat?

'Baywatch' gets condescending reviews… “Boobs, butts, and pecs — you were expecting Shakespeare?” said Hollywood Reporter, barely giving Priyanka Chopra a nod, but Variety commented, “Chopra, the crossover Bollywood star, preens and schemes like a vamp from 'Dynasty'.” Umm, who remembers 'Dynasty'?

The battle between Kangana Ranaut and Apurva Asrani over the writing credits of 'Simran' is so déjà vu. Everyone who suggested a line or scene wants credit; the director gets it anyway, even if all he/she did is sit in on meetings. However, very few writers kick up a fuss.

Anyway, whoever is giving Kangana career advice needs a reality check.

You’d have to be a cricket fan to appreciate a docu-drama on Sachin Tendulkar; heck, he deserves a proper bio.

Chetan Bhagat must be having the last laugh, as the universally panned 'Half Girlfriend' turned out to be a hit. Bollywood audiences are not exactly expecting Shakespeare from mainstream romantic movies. Look out for his next book being turned into a film and see him become India’s richest writer.

That 'Hindi Medium' got a tax-free tag and a decent box-office response shows that audiences are not totally dumbed down.

The annual red carpet tamasha at Cannes just painfully underlines the sad fact that our films are not good enough to be invited.

One must applaud the sheer chutzpah of Mallika Sherawat, who pirouettes at Cannes every year, but hasn’t had a film there in years!

Why doesn’t the media, carry Nandita Das photos from Cannes? Because she doesn’t wear diaphanous dresses, side-boob flashing minis or Disney princess gowns?

Why is John Abraham so kicked about doing the Indian version of 'The Expendables'? The cast is made up of over-the-hill stars.

Tiger Shroff as 'Rambo'? The first Rambo film starring Sylvester Stallone came out in 1982 when so many of Tiger’s fans were not even born.

Every star spews non-stop verbiage in their endless promotional interviews, so much so, that they all sound the same, be it Irrfan, Sushant Singh Rajput, Kangana Ranaut, Huma Qureshi or Varun Dhawan. Do they all share the same PR agency?

Aries (Mar 21 - Apr 20)Concentrate on work else you could lose some money through neglect or indifference. Stay clear of fresh proposals and also from those people who are known to give unwanted advice. You are better judge of your condition and take all measures to protect your job or financial interests. At a family gathering you may not like the overtures or attention of a person who is a pest, say so in your own interest. You will not be hurting anyone.
