Riteish Deshmukh is on a roll with the stupendous success of ''Housefull-3'' and now his most talked about film ‘Great Grand Masti’ is about to release and we had a hearty chat with the chilled out star....
How different is the tri-quel from the other two versions of ‘Masti’?
It’s now a horror adult comedy with a lot of funny situations and dialogues and an absolutely hilarious script by Tushar Hiranandani and we as actors had decided to etch our characters differently after a long discussion with director Indra Kumar. We have tried our best not to be repetitive and bring out new stuff. The film is about three guys played by me,Viveik and Aftab who are married but try to woo a beautiful girl, played by Urvashi Rautela, which leads to hilarious situations.
What was it like to work on the film?
We worked hard to essay our characters and tried to do different things. Aftab and Viveik are old friends and it was great fun to work with them. Urvashi gelled with the unit very well and Indra Kumar was very chilled out. The direction created a fascinating effect on screen.
There were a lot of controversies following the film.
Yes. But we had taken measures to tone down the content. We faced hurdles but nothing can be done as it is not in our hands. The final product is most attractive and all we can hope is that the film does well. Whether it reaches 200 crores or 100 crores business is another thing, but our hard work should pay off. The leaked out print controversy is another matter which we couldn’t do anything about. Rest we leave it to the Almighty.
Do you feel the comedy genre has helped your acting career?
I have worked more in franchises of comedy than anyone else but I have also done a successful slasher thriller kind of a film like ''Ek Villain''. I don’t know why but I am more recognised by the masses as I bring a laugh to their faces and my comic avatar is widely preferred.
Tell us something about the music of the film.
Gaining a great deal of popularity, the music by Sanjeev Darshan, Toshi- Sabri and Shaan, have been getting good hits on You Tube.
What's coming up next?
I have two Marathi films coming up, ‘Banjo’ with Ravi Jadhav and one with Nishikanth Kamath.
