Taapsee Pannu is an Indian model and actress, who has worked in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi film industries. She made her Hindi film debut with David Dhawan’s remake of the cult classic ‘Chasme Buddoor’. Now she's starring in the action-thriller ‘Baby’ and has a very important role in the multi-starrer. We got talking to Tapasee about her new film and this is what she has to tell us
You reportedly have an image makeover role in ‘Baby’
Yes. I play an undercover agent in this spy thriller and have a lot of action in the film for which I had to learn a special kind of martial arts. This role was very challenging for me. I play the character of Priya Suryavanshi who is trained in basic combat and has excelled in the training academy.
What is the film all about?
It is about an elite anti-terrorist squad, a secretive group, about whom not much is known. They work undercover and do covert operations to protect the country.
Your debut film ‘Chasme Buddoor’ was different from your role in ‘Baby’? How did you bag ‘Baby’?
Yes. You are right. In fact I have got these films on a platter, but ‘Baby’ is the only film in which I chased the producer and director of the film, Neeraj Pandey, and had to convince him to let me do it because I really liked my character in the film and the role too.
How was it like working on the film?
It was great and to work with Akshay Kumar was a dream come true. Akshay really made me comfortable on the sets and played a few harmless pranks on me. Also Anupam Kher, Kay Kay Menon and the rest of the cast were great to work with.
What are your forthcoming films?
I have a film called 'Runningshaadi.com' where I am paired opposite Amith Sadh. It’s an interesting role where I play a girl who helps lovers to elope and get married. The film is produced by Shoojit Sircar and directed by cinematographer and ad filmmaker Amit Roy. The film has been entirely shot in Punjab locales.
