Sonam Kapoor is one of the few new generation actors to have made her mark in the Hindi film industry. Now she is about to unleash her star power in her new comedy drama ‘Dolly Ki Doli’ which releases soon. Sandeep Hattamgadi spoke to the sprightly actor about her new film at the first look launch of the movie and this is what she has to tell us.
After ‘Khubsoorat’ another comedy, are you creating a comic image?
No. Not really. Actually before ‘Khubsoorat’ I had three romantic movies in ‘Raanjhanaa’, ‘Bhaag Milkhaa Bhaag’ and ‘Bewakoofiyyan’. I don’t want to be slotted in any image and want to do all genres of roles
What exactly is ‘Dolly Ki Doli’ all about?
It’s about a beautiful winsome girl, Dolly played by me who ensnares men with her charm, marries them and decamps with their wealth. I dupe three husbands played by Pulkit Samrat, Rajkumaar Rao and Varun Sharma. But Pulkit plays a tough cop and is after her. That in brief is the screenplay of the film.
Are producer Arbaaz Khan and Salman Khan a part of the film?
That you will have to see when the film releases and I am sure it will be a great surprise to you.
How was it like working on the film?
I had a blast because all the unit members are young and without any airs and producer Arbaaz Khan is the best producer I have ever worked with and the way he has handled my look with the numerous outfits really amazed me. He and director Abhishek Dogra who too is young have delivered a very good film.
What is the USP of the film?
The music by Sajid Wajid is really mind blowing and will soon be a chartbuster. My dances and Malaika Arora’s dance number will enthrall the audiences.
The film releases alongside Akshay Kumar’s ‘Baby’? Is it a good decision?
Both the films are different in genres . ‘Baby is an action thriller and our film is a light hearted comedy drama. I am sure the paying public will patronize both the films
What next?
I have Rajashris ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ directed by Sooraj Barjatya and starring Salman Khan opposite me and I also have acquired the rights of Anuja Chauhan's ‘Battle for Bittora’ which I will produce.
That’s the ebullient and vivacious Sonam Kapoor for you!
