Soha Ali Khan recently had a lean period at the box office but now her most ambitious film ‘Charfutiya Chokre’ is about to release; we spoke to the sprightly actor her at the press meet of the film
What is the story of ‘Charfutiya Chokre’?
The film is about street urchins who take to petty crime and murders in the cities and interior villages and how they live in an unhealthy environment.
What is your character in the film?
I play an NRI girl, Neha who comes to a small village in Bihar, to construct a building for a school, for her NGO. She is shocked to learn that the three boys who guided her to the school building are hardcore criminals and have been involved in many murders and then forms an NGO to help rehabilitate such street kids, reform them and give them a good future. She is a well meaning person who loves children.
Is there a leading man opposite you?
No. I am the hero of the film, if you can say so. The story revolves around me and the children like Harsh Mayar who is a National Award winning actor. Shankar Mandal and Aditya play the other two boys.
How did you like the director?
Manish Harishankar was an assistant to Rajkumar Santoshi and handles all departments of the film efficiently. He's done a fabulous job.
What about the music?
There are four melodious songs composed by Abhijeet, Sameer and Sudeep Bannerjee.
Who are the other cast members?
Seema Biswas who plays one of the boys' mother, Zakir Hussain, and Mukesh Tiwari play other important roles.
What about the producers?
Sunil Khosla and Vibha Khosla are wonderful producers and they completed the film as per schedule without any hassles.
What about your forthcoming films?
I play a Sardarni (woman) in Delhi during the riots that took place in the aftermath of Indira Gandhi's assassination. The film is directed by National Award winning director Shivaji Lotan Patil.
