Shahana Goswami, the talented actor who garnered attention with acclaimed films like ‘Yun Hota To Kya Hota’, ‘Firaaq’, ‘Jashnn’ and encountered stardom with ‘Rock On’ has a good release coming up with ‘Mirch’ which has been lauded on the festival circuit. We spoke to Shahana about her new film. Here is what she said.
Mirch’ is a highly anticipated film.
Yes. It is directed by the National Award winning director Vinay Shukla whose ‘Godmother’ was a classic film. It has been an honour for me to work with a director of such stature and I enjoyed every bit.
What’s your role in the film like?
I play Ruchi who is a successful film editor and is friendly with Arunoday Singh (Maanav) who plays a struggling and non-compromising film director trying to make his film by pitching it to a producer played by Nitin (Sushant Singh). However, the scripts are never approved and so an ensemble cast of Boman Irani, Raima Sen, Shreyas Talpade and Konkana Sen Sharma feature in the four short stories based on women’s emancipation and infidelity and Panchtantra in amodern milieu suggested by Maanav that ultimately make a film. I am not part of the stories.
You have not been promoted too well by the filmmakers.
I really don’t mind when there is a big star like Konkana and Raima Sen around. However, I have done my bit of promotion and was happy to do this role without any qualms. I had a great time shooting for the film in Bikaner.
Did the film’s delay affect you?
Actually, it’s only the trade people who are affected and actors like us hardly take note of the release or delay of
the film.
How was the shoot with the ensemble cast like?
I hardly any scenes with them but whatever I had was to my satisfaction.
Your role in ‘Break Ke Baad’ was appreciated but the film didn’t do too well.
Yes. But considering the expanse of the project, it’s doing very well and a lot of people have complimented me.
What’s next?
I have Sudhir Mishra’s film ‘Tera Kya Hoga Johnny’ and Abhinay Deo’s ‘Game’ coming up. I have a good role in ‘Game’ a thriller where I am one of the suspects stranded on an island. ‘Tera Kya Hoga Johnny’ is a dark film about a young boy played by Neil Nitin Mukesh in love with an elder married woman.
Are you a part of ‘Rock On-2’?
(Laughs aloud) If ‘Rock On-2’ is happening!
