Salman Khan is currently ruling the roost at the box office. It seems he has found a new lease of life in the past couple of years. Now, Bhai, as he is lovingly called, is considered to be the most bankable Hindi film actor.
Salman made his acting debut with a minor role in Biwi Ho To Aisi (1988). But it was Maine Pyar Kiya (1989) that brought him stardom. Salman, who has been delivering back-to-back hits says after the failure of his film Veer [2010], he makes sure the final cut of any of his films has his approval. He feels an actor’s involvement in creative processes helps sometimes.
Salman, the enigma of Bollywood, was born on December 27. The most sought after star is said to have the Midas touch as, today, his mere presence in a film or even the serial Big Boss on TV can generate large amount of profit for everyone concerned.
The year 2012 may be the year of Bollywood’s biggest blockbuster Dabangg 2. Will it be able to break the record of Ek Tha Tiger? The actor, credited with bringing the audience back to single screen theatres, is the extremly popular. Salman’s power at the box office has been tremendous since Wanted, Dabang and Ek Tha Tiger. No wonder Dabangg 2 is expected to break the records of Ek Tha Tiger and can even set a benchmark.
When Salman was recently asked as to what his success mantra was, he said, “At my age I have to do much better work than I used to do a decade back. I have to look better and do action scenes better than my previous film. Only then will I be justified in romancing the heroine and win the appreciation of film-goers and my fans.”
When almost every contemporary of his is trying to consolidate his place in the 100-crore club, Salman is in a different zone altogether.
