You can’t help but be reminded of the iconic ‘Sholay’ when you check out the title lettering of the movie ‘Gunday’, which coincidentally has two dare-devil outlaws as lead characters. Apparently unfazed by the lukewarm response to her recent debacle ‘Zanjeer’, Priyanka Chopra is excited as her next magnum opus ‘Gunday’ from the YRF camp releases on Valentines’ Day. But how would an action-centric crime thriller relate to the sentiments of V-Day? Says Priyanka, “ Actually, true romance without its share of ‘gundaagardi’ would be so bland, isn’t it? Although the movie is an action-packed, period drama, it has a strong undercurrent of love as well, where the two heroes Bikram and Bala (Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor ) are besotted with my character.”
Considering that she prefers films that are heroine-centric, was she content with the heroes hogging the limelight this time? “When my fans watch ‘Gunday’, they will be pleasantly surprised to see that my character Nandita has multiple layers to her and ultimately is the center of attraction,” says Priyanka. “Just like ‘Barfi’, 'Gunday’takes us back to the 70s and is set against the exotic city of Kolkata. Hence, the movie has been made in both in Hindi and Bengali,” she adds.
