“Hey, ‘Humshakals’ with its nine ‘anokhe avataars’ is a freak-out fusion of crazy confusion and definitely not a comedy of errors. You also get to watch a proper rollercoaster effect story with constant waves of laugh-out-loud (LOL) situations,” insists actor Riteish Deshmukh, whose slapstick comedy multi-starrer co-produced by Vashu Bhagnani and directed by Sajid Khan releases today amidst fanfare.
Not surprisingly, Riteish is on planet euphoria, because his Marathi movie production ‘Yellow’ won critical acclaim at the recent National Awards, while on the personal front, he is all set to be a ‘papa’, as actress-wife Genelia is ‘expecting’. Incidentally, the enterprising Deshmukh has also ventured into Marathi cinema as a lead actor with his maverick movie ‘Lai Bhaari’. Enthuses Riteish, “We had such a blast while shooting for 'Humshakals' on various foreign locations that its all evident on the screen. There was this healthy ‘one-up(wo)manship’ amongst Saif Ali Khan, Ram Kapoor and me when we were all skimpily clad in beachwear swimsuits. In fact, I had to bashfully borrow my wife’s skirt for one of the scenes. There was a lot of ‘waxing’ done to sport the ‘feminine’ look, and I realised that it's all so taxing. We have funny romantic escapades with our oomph-oozing co-stars like Esha, Tamannah and of course the glam-goddess Bipasha Basu. It’s overall a hilarious tsunami, one can say,” assures the actor who had been appreciated in his recent sex-comedy ‘Grand Masti’ which clicked at the box-office.
“Actually ‘Humshakals’ was challenging because we also played mentally retarded characters and behaved so childishly,” shrugs Deshmukh. Meanwhile, his upcoming Hindi movie ‘Ek Villain’ directed by Mohit Suri, releases next week. Reveals Riteish, “Out here, it’s a daring departure from my funny image, as I play a serious character of a frustrated common man. It’s a gripping musical love story with unexpected twists,” claims the actor who in real-life is a qualified architect. Little wonder then, that he is able to diligently execute the ‘blue-print’ plans for the high-rise structure of his acting career.
