Mumbai’s cine music industry has deeply mourned the recent passing away of veteran musician Homi Mullan, who was in his mid-70s, following a severe pulmonary-cardiac failure. The courteous Mullan was among the ‘sitting’ members core team of legendary composer R D Burman. Master percussionist and ace accordion player Homi, has played for recordings-takes of hundreds of ‘chartbuster’ RDB songs including ‘Ek Din Bik Jaayega’ and ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’. “Despite his ailing health, Homi-ji as a guiding mentor, would actively attend our bi-annual R D Burman ‘PanchamMagic’ memorial events in Pune. We were scheduled to release a brilliant bio-feature documentary on Homi-ji, made by Kushal Gopalka this Monday, (Jan 4th) which is Pancham-da’s death anniversary. We will go ahead with the release and dedicate it to ‘late’ Mullan’s fond memory, as part of our heartfelt tributes to him. For all of us, Homi-ji will always be there,” insist the ‘PanchamMagic’ team members Sandeep Kulkarni, Ankush Chinchankar and Raj Nagul. A number of senior musicians-composers including Kersi Lord, Ranjit ‘Kancha’ Gazmer,Burjor Lord, Amrutrao Katkar,Bhanu Gupta, Bhupinder Singh also called on Mullan’s family to offer their earnest condolences.
