After all the 'highs' and lows that Udta Punjab had faced since the last few weeks, the Bombay HC gave them a new lease of life by allowing the film's release. Though the Court has given its decision, it seems that the makers' woes are far from over.
A Punjab-based NGO, Human Rights Awareness Association moved the Supreme Court on Wednesday to stay the film's release tomorrow, as according to them it projects Punjab 'in a bad light'. The NGO told a vacation bench of the apex court that HC can't decide what to cut in a film and that it 'could not have interfered with the decision of the CBFC'. The SC is to mention their petition today.
If reports are to be believed, news is that Udta Punjab had leaked online, yesterday; two days before the release. While Udta Punjab is waiting to receive certification from CBFC, the film has made it to certain torrent websites. Some say that the full movie is available, while others are stating that only 40 minutes are available. The leaked copy has the scenes with the 'for censor' stamp on it, and apparently has all the scenes that CBFC wanted to be removed from the film, including the Shahid urinating scene. However, when contacted a source from the film's team said they have managed to remove the leaked links.
