Even though Priyanka Chopra may have captured the hearts of many worldwide with her international fame, back home, she has been facing a lot of flak. It's not for any of her roles in Bollywood, but, for her maiden Bhojpuri venture ''Bam Bam Bol Raha Hai Kashi''. The film, which was released on Friday met with a not so favourable response from many veterans of Bhojpuri cinema, who dubbed the film as extremely obscene.
Bam Bam Bol Raha Hai Kashi, which had the hit pair of Dineshlal Niruha and Amrapali Dubey in the lead roles, seemed to have rubbed many of the Bhojpuri cinema stalwarts in a bad way, as they found the film to be cheap and vulgar. The actress said that she was a firm believer in entertainment and box office collections and that she wanted the regional films to get a better platform. One of the film's detractors happened to be the National award winning director, Nitin N Chandra, who said that at a time when Bhojpuri was fighting for its existence, Priyanka had not only defamed herself, but also besmirched her Padma Shri award by producing a movie like Bam Bam Bol Raha Hai Kashi. Because he was majorly hurt over the vulgar lyrics and the double meaning dialogues, he was planning to write an open letter to her.
Another person was Kunal Dutt, the very man instrumental in running a campaign to save the historic Dutch-made Patna Collectorate from the demolition proposed by the Nitish Kumar government, took to Facebook and wrote, "The film not only has oodles of sleaze and titillation typical of any cheap, low-grade, sub-standard cinema being made to damage a beautiful language and culture like Bhojpuri, it also appears to be another misadventure of a misguided soul, out to rake in moolah from dumb and gullible audience looking for sex and cheap thrills." The irony of the situation is that, Priyanka was being slammed for the film, on the other hand, the Bihar Government's Art Minister, Shivchandra Ram referred her as the 'daughter of Bihar'.
