Parineeti says comments on childhood hardships misconstrued

Wednesday, May 31, 2017

Actress Parineeti Chopra today clarified her comments about childhood hardships, saying the remarks that she made at a Women's Safety Promotion Event were "misconstrued".

The 28-year-old actress posted a statement on Twitter today to refute the comments of a Facebook user, who insists to be her schoolmate and claims that she lied about her economic background for publicity. Parineeti said during her childhood days in Ambala, she and her brothers "did not have access to a car and driver to take them to school".

"My dad followed closely behind me to ensure I reached school safely. My dad did have a car that he used for his office work but we kids did not use it for school travel. As a child, I hated going on a cycle! But today I understand that he was doing it to make me independent and keep me safe," she tweeted.

Parineeti also wrote that the essence of her childhood anecdote was lost in the din of "very irrelevant" comments and it became "about me having a car or not".

"I would request everyone concerned to please not let menial things like this take precedence over what I was actually trying to say, about women's safety and the challenges that we girls face while growing up." she added. Parineeti had opened up about her school days in Ambala at the event, saying she was often eve-teased and hated going to school on a cycle.

Kkanoo Gupta, claiming to be from the same school, took to social media to slam Parineeti for "lying through the teeth" about her background. "I guess this is what being a celebrity means. Create a fabricated sob story of no money no car etc etc," he wrote
