Off-screen, Bollywood actresses Padmini Kolhapure and Poonam Dhillon are close buddies, since decades. Now when they have turned sartorial designers they are at it again ‘together’ of course with their respective distinct brand names.
Last weekend both the actresses exhibited their exclusive creations at the prestigious ‘Vivaha Fall-Winter’ collection convened by debonair entrepreneur Tarun Sarda.
Was charming Padmini always nurturing this hidden talent for designing? In an exclusive, she said, “It’s always been deep down there and I enjoy this styling dimension. It all started as a ‘gift’ to my NRI friend Sameera and it snowballed into a commercial venture. Now my partner Sita and I are into promoting intricate zari embroidery outfits and shawls. My female fans always wish to wear outfits similar to what I have worn in movies or at showbiz events. Although there are unscrupulous ‘imitations’ of what we do, they can’t replicate the intricate karigari. In many of my movies (‘Lovers’) I have worn my own style-outfits, which had become a rage,” discloses the ‘Prem Rog’ and ‘Pyar Jhukta Nahin’ heroine.
The gracefully gorgeous Poonam (of ‘Noorie’ and ‘Yeh Vaada Raha’ fame) enthuses, “Fashion has always been my passion, as I have been fond of trendy clothes. On a personal level I would previously design my own Poonam’s outfits and also for my close friends. So that led to my designing and curating ‘pop-up’ affordable ensembles which are Indo-Western that match the current festive flavors.”
