Rohit Dhawan's second directorial venture, ‘Dishoom’ has created quite a buzz since the release of the trailer. The teaser of the first song ‘Sau Tarah Ke’ was released this week and created a problem for the team
The song 'Sau Tarah Ke' features John Abraham,Varun Dhawan and Jacqueline Fernandez. In the song teaser, Jacqueline is wearing a short white dress and has a Hirpan wrapped around her waist, which has angered the Sikh community as Kirpan is one of the five compulsory Kakaars worn by a practising Sikh. They believe that the song is portraying the Kirpan in an inappropriate manner and disrespecting it.
The Gurdwara Management Committee's General Secretary, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, came across the video and wrote an open letter to CBFC chief Pahlaj Nihalani asking him to remove the song from the film. Adding to that, Sirsa has also asked for an apology from the Dishoom team for making a mockery of the Kirpan.
This is what the letter posted on his Facebook account reads:
"Objecting strongly to the 'Beadbi' of Kirpan, a pious symbol of Sikhism, we asked Sh. Pehlaj Nihlani, the chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification, to instruct the removal of the video of a song titled "ishq ka marz" from the upcoming movie "Dishoom". The song depicts a semi-clad actress, Ms. Jacqueline Fernandez, dancing with a Kirpan, one of the five compulsory Kakaars worn by a practising Sikh; dangling in front of her legs and supported by a cloth belt worn around the waist and thereby made a mockery of the sacredness and respect of the religious symbol."
This act is hurting sentiments of Sikhs as we already have numerous complaints from various Sikh bodies. I request CBFC to instruct the director to immediately remove all the trailers/videos of the aforesaid song uploaded on youtube.com or other websites; either delete the song from the movie or re-shoot its video sans the wearing of Kirpan, and to instruct the director and cast to make a public apology to the Sikh community for the deliberate insult done to a respectable Sikh religious symbol. If the CBFC fails to take appropriate action in this context, DSGMC will be compelled to initiate criminal proceedings against the producer, director as well as the CBFC."
The song has been composed by Pritam and choreographed by Bosco Martis.
