No plans for 'direction' - acting continues to be my passion: Rishi Kapoor

That Rishi Kapoor always puts his heart and soul in every role, is known to all cine-buffs and his fans. But this time, the senior yet evergreen Kapoor seems to have gone the ‘extra mile’  in his perfect portrayal  of the 'flamboyant, dandy, boisterous yet hilarious ' Punjabi father-in-law in Sanjay Chhel’s laugh-riot ‘Patel Ki Punjabi Shaadi’ (‘PKPS’) releasing today.

Chuckles Rishi, “It’s as if my mega-hit yesteryear debut film ‘Bobby’ , is made today from the perspective of the characters played by Pran and Premnath. But out here in ‘PKPS’, they are caught in the crazy, cultural inter-caste Gujarati-Punjabi pre-nuptial colourful cross-fire, as prospective fathers-in-law. It’s a sentimental cherry-on-the-cake, that Prem Chopra-saab who played himself in ‘Bobby’, now plays my father in ‘PKPS’.”

“Frankly, I was the one who insisted that amazing actor Paresh Rawal  should be playing the ‘Patel’ character, when I was approached for this movie-role,”  reveals the outspoken Kapoor.

Incidentally in ‘PKPS’, the agile Rishi has matched dance-steps with voluptuous TV actress Shilpa Shinde (ex-‘Bhabhi-ji TV fame) in a sizzling item song which goes ‘Maro Line Toh Tabiyat Fine’! Although his ‘showman’ dad Raj Kapoor was known for direction of numerous movies, son Rishi Kapoor seems content having directed just one film ‘Aa Ab Laut Chalen’ (1996). But the junior Kapoor justifies it. “For past 17 years, my second innings in striking character roles is going great guns. So I don’t feel the need at the moment, to think of deviating into direction. Acting continues to be my passion, which I am enjoying.”
