It is not a secret that the showman of Bollywood, Subhash Ghai and his Khalnayak’ actor, Sanjay Dutt have always shared a good bond. Moreover, the two have given great films together.
Ever since the actor was released from jail, many film-makers have gone ahead and expressed their desires to work with him in the near future. Top directors like Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Sanjay Gupta, Umesh Shukla and Siddharth Anand have mentioned about working with Sanjay Dutt. But in the list of directors, Subhash Ghai has made a significant place of working with Sanjay Dutt, the free man.
Since the Vidhaata and Khalnayak days, Sanjay has made a mark in Subhash Ghai’s heart, who signed the 'Munna Bhai' actor opposite Dilip Kumar in ''Vidhata'' - a blockbuster when he was shooting for his first film, ''Rocky'' for his father, Sunil Dutt. Then Khalnayak became the biggest blockbuster of its time in spite of controversies around like the song, 'choli ke peeche'.
The film-maker has also been very close to Sunil Dutt, who had a very fond relationship with Ghai, especially during his great fight against fate to get his son free. He participated in Padyatra led by Sunil Dutt in the 80s against terrorism in Punjab, and held a huge reception for Sunil in Delhi. Raj Kapoor, BR Chopra and top producers from Mumbai and all politicians from Delhi were invited and made themselves available to support him.
Few years back, Ghai had made plans to make a film with the actor but circumstances on both his and Sanjay’s fronts did not let the plan take shape. Ghai was probably one of those die-hard optimists who never gave up hope of starting a film with Sanjay. And finally the long wait has met an end as the two have now had serious talks about starting a new film. The director has a subject ready for his favourite actor and now that Sanjay is free, a green signal has been given to the film-maker to kick start the project.
