I am not thinking of biopic films: Vidya Balan

Monday, November 09, 2015

Vidya Balan may have featured in biopic film 'The Dirty Picture', but the National Award-winning actress says she wants to stay away from the genre at the moment.

Vidya received accolades for her performance in the Milan Luthria-directed film, which was a biographical drama film inspired by the life of Silk Smitha, a South Indian actress.

Since then, the 37-year-old actress has been offered quite a few biopic films, including on former Prime Minister late Indira Gandhi, slain former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, late actress Suchitra Sen and Bharat Ratna awardee vocalist MS Subbulakshmi. "Even I keep hearing. I am not thinking of biopic films. Once I confirm it, I will let you all know," Vidya said.

The 'Paa' actress will be seen in a special performance in a biopic titled 'Ek Albela'. "I am not doing any preparation for the film... It's a special appearance. It will release in January," she said.

She is playing the role of renowned yesteryear Bollywood actress Geeta Bali in the Marathi film 'Ek Albela'. 'Ek Albela' traces the journey of Bhagwan Dada's film career as an actor and director, and Vidya's role will be credited as a special appearance.

The actress thinks the perception towards small budget films is gradually changing. "There is change in viewing preferences of audiences in India. Our audience is diverse...There is an appetite for every kind of a film," she said.

"And slowly we are seeing small films in theatres and with festivals like MAMI, things are going to get better. But this won't change overnight. We have come a long way. It is refreshing to see new kind of films coming up," she said.
