US-based medico-model-actress Kalpana Pandit is all set to release her maiden venture ‘Janleva 555’
The otherwise US-based vivacious medico-model-actress Kalpana Pandit who has acted in five maverick Hindi movies directed by the acclaimed director-actor Mahesh Manjrekar, (including ‘Pitaah’ and ‘P. Laaloo Prasad Yadav’) has finally shed her relatively low profile. The reason being, that this time, lead actress-turned-producer Kalpana is all set to release her own maiden Hindi feature film venture directed by Sandeep Malani, titled ‘Janleva 555’ during the auspicious Navratri festivities this month. The movie which supposedly has engrossing elements of suspense, supernatural and romance spanning generations, boasts of 15 songs (phew!) with a riveting role for madame Kalpana.
Not many would be aware, that she has attended prestigious Hollywood movie events. Enthuses the glam-babe Pandit, “As a VIP guest, I had the honour of being the spokesperson of the Indian Film Industry at three A-list Hollywood movie premieres including that of James Bond: ‘Quantum of Solace’. At these events, I could interact with the likes of Morgan Freeman, Michael and Shakira Caine, Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Jennifer Lopez etc. The common factor amongst all these legends was their simplicity and modesty. They did express their fascination for Indian culture and seemed well-aware of the steady progress and diversity of Indian cinema,” she shrugs.
Quiz her on what a US-Qualified Emergency Room medico was doing in dicey-risky Bolly-biz as a producer she reacts, “Hey, movie production is one of the most challenging, most chaotic yet most creatively satisfying jobs that I have jumped into! My expertise working in an intensely stressful field like ER medicine in the US has helped condition me to handle any critical hurdles in a calm mode. Since I love humanity, and as my forte, passion and talent lies in two professions -- medicine and manoranjan, I wanted to give my best to both,” smiles Kalpana who is a trained classical danseuse.
Strangely, she is ‘tight-lipped’ when asked to reveal the mystery behind her intriguing movie title ‘Janleva 555’.
“Guess I shouldn’t be unraveling the basic plot in advance, as it may kill the suspense. All I can share, is that it’s a musically woven story beautifully encompassing Indian womanhood. And we also have a trump card in the form of stalwart charismatic actor Anant Nag, who with his striking role in ‘Janleva 555’, is staging his come-back to Hindi movies after a very long gap,” she signs off.
