Shekhar Suman, who made his acting debut opposite Rekha in ‘Utsav’, will soon be making his directorial debut with a romantic medical thriller ‘Heartless’. Talking about the experience Shekhar says that the film is quite close to his heart as it is dedicated to his elder son Aayush, who passed away at the age of 11 due to a heart ailment. “The film was a huge emotional experience for me particularly since I directed and acted in it with my son Adhyayan for the first time. He is a very sensitive and intense actor,” he says. Explains Shekhar, “The film is based on a never seen before phenomenon of anesthesia awareness, a frightening state where patients who are administered anesthesia are conscious from within; they can see, hear and even experience pain while their body remains still”. Apart from Shekhar Suman and Adhyayan Suman, ‘Heartless’ also stars Deepti Naval, Madan Jain and Om Puri in pivotal roles. Speaking about the casting Shekhar says, “I was very sure about casting Deepti Naval in the mother’s role as she is a fantastic actress. Om Puri said yes immediately and didn’t charge me a penny. I play a doctor since I know the nuances of the role as my father was a doctor. For the leading lady’s part I sat in on so many auditions of girls from New York. However, they just rattled off their dialogues and thought that it was acting, until I came across Ariyana Ayam. She fitted the role perfectly and has done a wonderful job.” We’re quite sure that the film will create a buzz when it’s released.
