Twice National Award-winning playback-pop singer and ghazal maestro, Hariharan seemed quite euphoric, when he was interviewed recently! That’s because his younger son, Karan Hariharan makes his debut as the lead actor in Bollywood movie, ‘Missing On A Weekend’ that has been directed by Abhishek Jawkar, which releases this week.
Didn’t Karan wish to follow his acclaimed singer-father’s musical footsteps? “Chuckles Hariharan, “Right from childhood, Karan is a born actor, a ‘nautanki’ of sorts. Even while he was around three years, he faced the camera with me, for popular track ‘Halka Nasha’, which had an adopted-kid-from-an ashram’ undercurrent. Having completed his ‘method acting’ course from Lee Strasberg Theatre Film Institute in Los Angeles, he was waiting to get the right break,” informs the senior singer, who had also dabbled in ‘acting’ in a few Southside regional films.
Was Hariharan happy with his son’s debut movie, which is not one of those big banner multi-starrers? “For a beginner, I guess this is a cool debut, because Karan has a pivotal role in the slick murder-mystery thriller and his performance will be noticed. There are just a few functional songs, which has the seasoned Pavan Malhotra in the cast. Which is why, there was no situation for me to sing,” shrugs the soul-stirring singer.
Wasn’t it true that your talented elder composer son, Akshay was working on an international pop-album? “That’s right. There is every possibility that in this venture, I may be singing a few tracks, “ discloses the unassuming Hariharan.
