“It is a shame that even after so many years of independence, 67 percent of India still remains without information and education.''
Eminent film-maker, Shyam Benegal, recently spoke of what one should focus upon while working on a film.
Talking of the issue at the inauguration of the sixth National Science Film Festival, Benegal said that the process of entertainment should come before information and education.
He said, ''unlike a classroom, one needs to hold the audience's attention using entertainment. When you communicate, people have to respond, depending on three factors- the information provided, whether it's something they will retain by way of education and lastly, if they are being entertained.''
Emphasising on the need for more value based education, Mike Pandey, Environmentalist and film-maker, who was also present, mentioned that ''films are the best way to carry the information to the remotest area in the shortest possible time in various languages.
