Believe it or not, the petite winsome Sanah Kapur who happens to be the daughter of acclaimed actors Pankaj Kapur and Supriya Pathak-Kapur and the step-sister of star-hero Shahid Kapur ‘refused’ to use her filmy clout when she went for her audition-tests for Karan Johar’s production ‘Shaandaar’.
What was the logic of the Kapur girl who wanted to be an actress right from childhood, behind keeping her illustrious lineage a top secret ? She wears her dimpled smile as she open up . “It was just that I got a call from Mukesh Chhabra’s office, that I should appear for the audition-look test. So I went ahead thinking it would be a cool experience for me, even otherwise. But then they found me perfectly suited for the second lead Isha’s screen-character. It was only after I was finalized did I tell the movie director Vikas Bahl (of ‘Queen’ fame) who I was. Even my parents came to know only after the producer had confirmed me,” she shrugs.
Was she allowed to go thru the script ? “Of course. The first mantra my dad taught me, was to treat the script like the ‘Bible’ . Actually, I fell in love with the character Isha which I was supposed to play. Even if a girl is pretty , our society tends to look down on her natural handicaps, is what is exposed in Shaandaar’ which has this comedy undercurrent Out here, Isha is a charming girl but her setback is that she is ‘over-weight’ and yet I am shown getting married and Shahid happens to be the wedding-planner ,“ discloses the ‘Gulabo’ song girl, who was asked to ‘put on’ 15 kgs within three months for her role.
