Evelyn Sharma is the latest pin-up girl in tinsel town with a roster of hit films like ‘Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani’, ‘Yarriyan’, and ‘Nautanki Saala’. We spoke to the half German half Indian girl about her life and times in Hindi film industry. Evelyn spoke candidly about her journey in B-Town.
How has your Hindi film journey been till now?
It’s been a fantastic roller coaster ride with many ups and downs but I’m loving every moment of it.
Does your glamorous image work for you?
I think every girl wants to feel glamorous, so yes it works for me very much! .
Which of your films are you proud of?
My favorite movie is ‘Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani’ . It was the toughest movie to shoot and the best outcome so far. It makes me proud to remember all the hard work we have put into it and that the audiences loved it so much. It also makes me proud that this movie has been dubbed in German and shown on German television. All my friends and family back home loved the movie too!
Who are the directors and co-stars on your wish list?
There are just too many to mention, but one in the top is Anurag Basu! I really adore his movies.
Are you game for offbeat roles?
Of course. As an actor the most fun is to experiment with different characters and roles. The best feeling is to hold a new script and find out everything about a character. Off beat or mainstream.
Any role models or icons in this field ?
One of my favorite actresses of all times is Salma Hayek. She’s just fabulous in all her movies.
Are you open to television offers?
I am a huge fan of TV shows. But more of the English ones than the Indian ones. Mainly because I understand the jokes.
Tell us about your international singing debut.
I am super excited for my song ‘Something Beautiful’ to release. It really is a song straight from my heart and I hope whoever hears the song will find comfort and motivation in it. I met the producer, Brooklyn Shanti on the promo tour of my film ‘From Sydney With Love’, for which he composed a few numbers. One day we sat and put a few lines of my diary into a song and he asked me to sing it. It was something I had never experienced in my life before. To sing your own song to the world. I can’t wait for everyone to hear it.
What was the thought process behind the song ‘Something Beautiful?
‘Something Beautiful’ speaks about a rather dark time in my life, when I didn’t feel accepted or worth much. It’s about not giving up and going on with your dreams.
