Not surprisingly, the Jahnvi Kapoor-Ishaan Khatter starrer 'Dhadak', which set a benchmark record with the highest opening for newcomers at nearly Rs 9 crore, has now crossed the Rs 50 crore mark. Little wonder, then the lead cast, director Shashank Khaitan and of course star-maker mentor Karan Johar (he sported a concealed T-shirt which had the iconic Mona Lisa image) appeared “overwhelmed” with euphoria at the post-release media interaction.
The outspoken KJo (Karan) was charged as he clarified. “Our movie is not meant to be compared to the original Marathi movie , because ‘Dhadak' is a homage to ‘Sairat’ in a different language. If we have upset any fans of ‘Sairat’, we apologise, even as we are immensely grateful to audiences for patronizing our adapted version. The candid Jahnvi admitted that she was feeling more nervous today, and was unable to rationalize the reason. “It’s as if a journey has come to an end and I am feeling nostalgic. But I know, I still have a long way to go, and I hope with this motivation I keep working harder and keep people happy. After the screenings, people and even senior artistes would exit with tears in their eyes. I have never been happier making others cry, in my entire life,” smiles Jahnvi, who has been highly appreciated for her bubbly spontaneity and her shock-value muted screams in the numbing climax scene.
“It was all thanks to a genuine sense of attachment towards my screen-character, that I performed so naturally. Of course with guidance from Shashank-Sir,” analyses the charismatic Kapoor.
