While the filmy news media is busy hype-highlighting the exotic Lake Como ‘Italian’ destination wedding of ravishing Deepika Padukone with debonair dulha Ranveer Singh, what seems to have apparently faded out of media memory is this. Exactly nine months ago, in February (call it an incredible coincidence) the elegant madame Padukone was honoured with the ‘Volare Award’ convened by the Italian Tourism and the Italian Consulate.
The Volare (it means 'to fly') Awards are presented to those from Bollywood who played significant roles towards cinematic promotion of Italian tourism. Besides Deepika, who was clad in a red n’white ‘stripe-tease’ ethnic saree, a galaxy of luminaries including maestro composer - singer A.R.Rahman, style-savy Jackie Shroff, Randhir Kapoor, film-makers Imtiaz Ali, Sajid Nadiadwala and Aashish Singh (YashRaj), were among those who were also honoured. Incidentally, hubby Ranveer Singh happens to be the official ‘brand ambassador’ of Switzerland Tourism.
