The name Kunal Khemu conjures up an image of the cute impish child actor in films like ‘Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke’ and ‘Zakham’ but the baby faced actor has hits like ‘Golmaal-3’, ‘Dhol’, ‘Superstar’ and the pathbreaking ‘Kalyug’ which made him a saleable name in the industry. Now his latest venture ‘Blood Money’ is set for release. ADC caught up with the future of Hindi film industry. Some excerpts.
Is ‘Blood Money’ a sequel to ‘Kalyug’?
No. Not at all. The screenplay is totally different but, yes, a few scenes and situations might resemble ‘Kalyug’. The idea was to make a sequel to ‘Kalyug’ with a new script but we saw a ‘sequel’ epidemic and we didn’t want to join the bandwagon.
What is your character in the film?
I play a middle class Mahara-shtrian boy called Kadam who works in Cape Town, South Africa in a huge conglomerate and is happy with his cushy job and loving girlfriend played by Amrita Puri. But his life takes a turn when he realizes that the company he works for is involved in nefarious activities and Kadam is a very conscientitious worker and then what happens to Kadam is the premise of the film.
Reportedly you have done lot of hot steamy scenes in the film.
It’s not true. Except for one brief scene there is no nudity at all. It’s a clean film. We shot mostly in beautiful outdoor locations of Cape Town.
How was it like working with Amrita Puri and Mia Uyeda?
It was a great experience to work with such new talent and I enjoyed every moment of it. The debutant director Vishal Mahadkar is a very dear friend of mine for the last many years and he is a very hardworking person who gives everything to his work and the results one can see once the public sees the film.
From child star to adult films. How has the journey been?
I am thankful to God and all those who have helped me reach here especially my father and the Bhatt Brothers.
Yes. She has always been my support and we share a good bond. We complement each other very nicely.
Talk of having everything!
