Megastar Akshay ‘knock-out’ Kumar who is exhilarated following the stupendous response to his latest action-flick ‘Brothers’, was in jubilant mood at the unconventional trailer launch of his upcoming movie ‘Singh is Bliing’ directed by Prabhu Deva and co-produced by Ashvini Yardi and Dhaval Gada. Glued to his glam-babe co-star Amy Jackson, (the Bollywood version of Bo Derek), the adventurous Akshay dressed up as a suited Sardarji, made his dramatic entry mounted atop a ‘tractor’ in the parking complex of a Juhu movie-theatre.
“Honestly, I have never driven a tractor before, and I had to ‘bribe’ the owner to let me steer it,” chuckled Akshay who clarified that the title ‘….Bling’ signified someone who ‘shines’ in the eyes of the world and it did not imply the opulent glitter.
Incidentally, Kumar been shown being ‘kissed by a camel’ and even has ‘buddy’ scenes with a lion.
“Yes, I bonded well with a tamed lion who even licked my face – it felt like prickly sand-paper,” he squirms.
What then was the ‘khaas baat’ about this role of ‘Raftaar’ that Akshay decided to grab the offer? Since the past two years my movies were the ‘serious’ types, minus the hansi-mazaak. So I felt it was time now, for a crazy comedy-action thriller with family values and romance thrown in. There is a social message that one should be ‘firmly focused’ in life,” shrugs Akshay, who appeared peeved that the various Annual Film Awards in our country still snobbishly ‘look down’ upon comedy.
“It’s high time quality comedy gets its due recognition that it badly deserves. Because it’s so difficult to make people laugh,” insists Akshay, who staunchly defends his dialogue in ‘SIB’ that women should not use their “nails only for applying nail-polish but also for self-defence when they are being molested.”
