In an otherwise fairly well-orchestrated (there were glitches as well) Dadasaheb Phalke Academy Awards on Wednesday afternoon, which had the Governor K. Sankaranarayanan as the chief guest and where the stars Jeetendra, Juhi Chawla, Farhan Akhtar and Sunidhi Chauhan were conferred the coveted Phalke honours, it was the current TV super-star and Phalke awardee Kapil Sharma, who proved to be the anti-climax .
The exuberant TV host of 'Comedy Nights' arrived at 4.30 pm after the event was over. When Kapil (who is gliding out of the recent twitter controversy) finally arrived on the empty stage, he was disheartened to realise that there was not a single celebrity to present him with the Phalke award . It was as if ‘iss baar Kapil-Bittu ka hee “Babaji ka thullu” ho gaya!'
The Phalke trophy was handed over to the ace funster by some aam aadmi, minus any fanfare. Coincidentally, Bollywood actress-cum-pop singer Tinaa Ghai (Dhol Ka Pol) who was a guest also served as timely moral support for Sharma.
Refusing to be unnerved, the confidence-oozing Sharma justified, “As I am planning to start my debut-movie shooting schedule very soon, I had a hectic non-stop shooting schedule.”
When asked which political party according to him, was likely to win this time, he put on his gleeful grin? “The one which gets the maximum votes,” he rattled off in his signature comic style.
