Former Southside heart-throb, Arvind Swamy known for his retro-hits like ''Roja'' and ''Bombay'', is returning to Hindi films after a sabbatical of 15 years with ''Dear Dad'' and the ADC caught up with him at the press meet of the film. Here are few excerpts from his interview.
When asked what took him so long to return to Hindi cinema, he says, "I wanted to do different things and explore new opportunities. I also did Tamil and Telugu films which supported my comfort zone, and after ''Roja'' and ''Bombay'', I was intimidated by the adulation and stardom as I am a very reclusive person and was not even open to media. I just wanted to be left alone and I did films with my mentors, Mani Ratnam and Santosh Sivan in the South. I saw success in other terrains as well.
The script, I like very much and I was very comfortable, as my character in the film suited me very much. Director, T. Bhramar is a brilliant film-maker, who has done wonderfully in his debut film.
Revealing the genre of the film, Arvind says, "It’s a coming of age movie and a father-son relationship film between a 14 year old boy Shivam and his father Swaminathan, played by me. The story showcases a road movie which travails the relationship between a father and son, that gets hampered because of certain circumstances.''
The plot revolves around how the father and son come together on a trip to Mussorie where Shivam studies in a boarding school. The duo face wonderful and some rather not so good happenings on the journey. The film delves into a very serious gay relationship as well".
