The genial star Arshad Warsi is on a high after the success of his ‘Jolly LLB’ and ‘Ishqiya’. Now his most ambitious venture ‘Joe B Carvalho’ is about to release
Supposedly the film was titled ‘Rocky Mera Naam’ earlier?
Yes. But I thought the film needed a catchy title as it has lots of comedy and comic situations and dialogues , so I thought the common man needed to identify with the title and since I had the title with me I thought of ‘Joe B Carvalho’ for the film since it has nothing vulgar and only neat comedy.
Reportedly you play a detective in the film?
Yes. But he is a bumbling type of detective with a clean heart, always ready to help others, but his work makes him go through difficult situations beyond him but he succeeds in his cases with the help and blessings of the Good Lord Above. He isn’t that smart but he wants to be a big successful detective like his father.
Were you making a serious film earlier?
No. Not at all. A James Bond or a Sherlock Holmes type of a detective wouldn’t have worked for the film and I also am not much into serious films so we always wanted Joe to be a comic detective, a genre which I always wanted to do. I have done some different films like ‘Seher’, ‘Ishqiya’, ‘Jolly LLB’, etc. If a film like ‘Angoor’ can be made today, it would be like ‘Joe B Carvalho’.
How was it like working with Soha Ali Khan?
She is a girl with a lot of class and royal upbringing and well brought up who respects everybody and a wonderful actor too. I enjoyed working with her.
Seems like Soha has a lot of action in the film. Didn’t you feel awkward since you are the leading man in the film?
It’s the demand of the script since I am not a fighter in the film and Soha does the fight scenes with lot of aplomb. But in the climax my mother coaxes me to fight giving the instance of all the Chinese martial art films that my father showed me.
