Even as the ‘World Cup’ FIFA football finale is soaring towards its frenzied peak tomorrow, the trending buzz is that star-actor Ajay Devgn will be cast in the role of a ‘football coach’. Off-screen, adventurous Ajay is known to be a sports-loving person like his buddy-director Rohit Shetty.
If Shah Rukh Khan convincingly portrayed the role of a tough-talking mentor ‘hockey coach’ in the milestone movie ‘Chak De-India’ (2007), this time the ‘Golmaal’ hero Ajay, will be living out the inspiring saga of ‘unsung hero’ Syed Abdul Rahim, who was the Indian football team coach-manager from 1951 to 1962.
Under Syed’s mentoring, training, the Indian team had ‘dribbled’ towards winning the ultimate gold, beating the formidable top favourite South Korean team at the 1962 Asian Games.
The ‘period’ film to roll next year, would be directed by Amit Sharma (of ‘Tevar’ and ‘Badhaai Ho’ fame) will be co-produced by Boney Kapoor, Zee Studios, Akash Chawla and Joy Sengupta. Meanwhile, the dynamic Devgan is busy prepping for his title role in and as ‘Taanaji-The Unsung Warrior’, which is yet another ‘period’ film. In all probability, his actress-wife Kajol may be cast as the female lead opposite him, as it his own home production.
